Subjective assessment method for television digital codecs

Results of previous experiments to compare the performance of quality and impairment types of subjective grading scales for television pictures have been re-examined with particular reference to performance near the threshold of visibility. No evidence was found to suggest that the quality scale should be superseded for assessing television digital codecs.
