With the modern trend heading towards ubiquitous computing, collecting delivering data has been extensively researched. There is a need for high quality data and failure free wireless communication, but there is no general solution or specific algorithm that addresses this problem. In this paper, a collection of recent papers are reviewed and the main focus concentrates around three main factors. These factors are the topology of the network, failure of the network measurement and cost minimization respectively. Topology of the network includes specific node placement and displacement. Network failure includes physical damage to a node or communication failure, where current research have included proactive or reactive approaches. Lastly, is cost minimization of the overall network using the formulation of optimization techniques to estimates the cost using the total number of nodes or a total energy being consumed by each node. In this paper, these main factors are discussed as an open research problem since all three factors can overlap to obtain a better solution.
