Developmentof the Guide hypertext system has been progressing at the University of Kent since 1982.The paper looks back over the mistakes and successes of the last ten years, with a view of drawing some lessons for the future development of hypertext.The reader is not assumed to be a Guide user, and the lessons learned apply to hypertext systems in general.
