The expressive power structured values in pure OODB's (extended abstract)

We provide a general framework to study the notion of abstraction in pure object-oriented database models with query languages based on object creation.Abstraction is the key operation to express structured values like aggregates and sets in such languages.We use our general framework to investigate the expressive power of abstraction and to obtain a better understanding of particular features of recent work in the field.
