APL and the search for truth

New Eleusis is a card game used to study problem solving techniques. In 1977, the inventor of the game characterised efforts to get a computer to win at it as “doomed to failure.” The expressive power of APL combined with the use of nested arrays has enabled the author to confound that prediction, suggesting that APL is a good language for research in Artificial Intelligence.
