A DECISION-MAKING TOOL FOR ASSESSING TO CLOUD COMPUTING MIGRATION

Marcelo Morais de Melo, Eric Alberto de Mello Fagoto · 2013

Many companies have been moving towards Cloud Computing Systems (CCS) becauseof the promise of low cost and effective computing services with high availability. Therefore, in this scenario, it easy to understand why companies even sees CloudComputing as a required step to maintain and improve their competitiveness. However, avery careful implementation plan should be followed before migrating to any CCS.Actually, this plan should weigh if, when, and how to implement a CCS, besides the goalto be achieved, the required computing resources, and the Information Technologydivision role within the company. In this paper, a questionnaire tool is proposed to helpcompanies to pave the way to Cloud Computing. As a major aspect of our discussion, before abandoning the traditional datacenter approach for a CCS, a company should firstconsider if its needs could not be fulfilled by moving to a virtualized datacenter. Thiscould be a first, and wiser, step in this migration process before moving to a CCS. In anext step, companies could then migrate to a CCS as preparation to a future connection tothe Public Cloud.
