An introduction to the tunnel diode as a circuit element

Phillip M. Thompson, J. Bateson · Journal of the British Institution of Radio Engineers · 1961

The theory of operation of the tunnel diode is discussed with reference to energy levels. Its function as a negative resistance element is considered and a simple oscillator circuit and a computer logic circuit are given. The advantages of the device for aviation electronics are assessed.
