System performance measurements and evaluation (Panel Session)

Joel Winett · 1972

In addition to providing user facilities, operating systems enable increased system utilization through multiprogramming of independent jobs and through centralized control of input/output and storage devices. In order to evaluate various scheduling or device management algorithms, a facility must be available to measure the operating characteristics of the computer system. The contributors to this session will discuss algorithms for obtaining improved performance as well as ways of evaluating new techniques with respect to their effect on system performance.
