Information for Development in Africa

Reviews major hindrances to the provision of information in Africa, including: lack of trained staff; poor infrastructure; financial constraints; poor publishing scenario; poor cooperation among institutions; lack of effective legislation; and problems of access. Considers the prospects for development information systems in Africa. Concludes that the major issue has been a lack of acknowledgement of the interdependence that exists between information and development.
