Abstract An important requirement for tracking filters is the ability to maintain tracking under dense environments. The JPDA (Joint Probabilistic Data Association) using the positional measurements is conceivable. However, if the number of observation data to be processed simultaneously is increased, incorrect correlation takes place and the tracking performance deteriorates. In this paper, in order to improve the problem of incorrect correlation in the JPDA, the JPDA using the range rate measurement is proposed. Through several simulations, the validity of this method has been confirmed with respect to tracking success rates and tracking accuracies. © 2001 Scripta Technica, Electron Comm Jpn Pt 1, 85(3): 19–29, 2002
