Under the condition of flooded irrigation, it has been confirmed that ferric iron compounds existing mostly in insoluble forms in soils were appropriately reduced to more soluble ferrous forms, and that the application of organic matters brought about favorable circumstances for the development of the reducing state induced by activated microbes1 2) and consequently the formation of active ferrous iron in soils resulted.
