Performance of Two Linux Methods for Encrypting Data at the File System Level in CE Devices

Gennady Lomako, Frank Delmas · 2007

Consumer electronics (CE) products are showing strong growth in usage and purchase intent. Cryptographic file systems allow a consumer to encrypt and password protect removable drives, including USB drives, memory sticks, and flash cards. In this demonstration, we present the most useful kind of benchmarks and implementation instructions with the use of Linux open source APIs, that users can customize to their own typical tasks to create cryptographic file systems most commonly used in CE. Moreover, we present a timer module for timing investigations of cryptographic activities for the Linux cryptoloop and dm-crypt methods.
