Newspapers around the world carried this report of the West German hackers infiltration of the NASA computer network. The hackers were members of a computer club in Hamburg, Germany who called themselves CHAOS. The group founded in 1985 were mostly hobbyists, but many were good programmers. Each member had to qualify for acceptance in the group, and two of the members were systems managers [4].
