An integrated microprogram development methodology based on APL

This paper describes a development methodology for generating code for a microprogrammable processor. The development system is built around a formal model of the required functionality and some tools that automate, to a large extent, the generation of the final microcode. The tools include the generation and validation of the model, the generation of the symbolic microcode and an assembler for translation into the final microcode. The main advantage of using this method is the reduction in development time and the removal of all logic errors in early stages of the design (prototyping).
