Algorithms and software: integrating theory and practice in the undergraduate computer science curriculum

A theoretical trend in the development of undergraduate computer science curricula is described. While this curriculum trend can be seen as a natural evolution of a discipline, there are other reasons for it. An opposite trend can be observed that seeks to integrate theory and practice in the undergraduate curriculum. We offer general guidelines based on this second curriculum philosophy.
