This article discussion some of the problems that are inherent in the non-traditional authorship attribution studies of theHistoria Augusta those using statistics, stylistics, and the computer) and some of the problems that I feel are due to practioner error in these studies. Although several problems with some of the studies are pointed out, the major problem and, therefore, the major thrust of the paper is the primary data—the text itself.
