Expediting phase convergence of binary feedback based distributed beamforming

Distributed beamforming is a cooperative transmission technique that enables distributed nodes with a single antenna to collaborate with each other in order to improve the received signal strength at the receiver. One simple distributed beamforming technique is that each distributed node independently and randomly adjusts its phase depending on the binary feedback information sent from the receiver. In this paper, we propose a new phase updating method for expediting the convergence speed of binary feedback based distributed beamforming. The proposed method gradually narrows down the phase selection range by considering the relationship of previous phase selections and the corresponding feedback from the receiver. The simulation result shows that when our method is used, the phase convergence speed is doubled as compared with random phase selection with a fixed selection range.
