Quality Aspects of System Development Paradigms

Abstract Abstract ‐ Complex systems (e.g. software systems) can only be developed by a stepwise process. A major contributor to a product's quality is the quality of the process by which it is developed. Quality cannot be added to a product after it has been developed. Therefore quality assurance process is dependent on the development process and must be intimately intertwined with it. Furthermore the paradigms used for development will have a strong influence on the quality of the final product. In this paper we investigate how different development paradigms (from waterfall to object‐orientation) impact some key quality criteria: need satisfaction, error detection time, future orientation, and re‐usability.
