The future of programming languages
W. S. Curran · 1992
The lifespans of Computer languages are difficult to predict. And yet, if we are to properly meet the needs of Computer Science students, we must be able to choose the languages with survival strengths. This paper raises questions about the directions of programming languages, and assesses several of today's popular languages in terms of their future potential, both as teaching and commercial tools. It also offers suggestions for improving curricula and links between the levels of academia and industry.
