Combating Online Software Piracy
Gregory M. Hess · Journal of Internet Commerce · 2003
Software piracy costs the software industry over $10 billion per year in lost revenue. The explosive growth of the Internet has provided software pirates with a powerful tool for acquiring and distributing software. Although governmental agencies and private associations are mounting initiatives and taking legal action against individuals and companies offering pirated and counterfeit software on the Internet, it is up to each software company to protect its own intellectual property interests on a day-to-day basis. Implementing a basic, three-pronged approach can be effective for combating software piracy online and for shoring up eroding revenues due to online software piracy.
