THE DETERMINATION OF OPTIMAL SAMPLE SIZE FOR SOME WORK MEASUREMENT PROCEDURES

Shelley Zacks · International Journal of Production Research · 1961

SUMMARY Work Measurement procedures for the estimation of the Ratio-Delay and Average Performance Time are reconsidered. The statistical models corresponding to these procedures are formulated in terms of the various sources of variation in worker-production systems. The optimum number of observations for each relevant time period, and the optimum number of time periods are derived in terms of the sampling cost, the available budget and the required confidence intervals for the estimates of the characteristics being measured.
