Enhancing performance of AODV against Black hole Attack

Rajesh Yerneni, Anil K. Sarje · 2012

Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector routing (AODV) is a widely adopted network routing protocol for Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET). However it is vulnerable to some of the security attacks. Black hole attack is one of them. In this attack, a malicious node injects a fake Route Reply message to deceive the source node so that the source node establishes a route to the malicious node and sends all the data packets to the malicious node. It drops these data packets and reduces packet delivery ratio of network substantially. In this paper, a method is proposed called Secure-Ad hoc On demand Distance Vector(SAODV) algorithm that mitigates black hole attack by analyzing destination sequence number and validating the destination by random value. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol provides better security by increasing the packet delivery ratio when compared to AODV in presence of black hole attacks.
