A modal control model for distributed systems with application to boundary controllability

Gerald E. McGlothin · International Journal of Control · 1974

In this paper a modal control model for a class of distributed parameter systems described by a scalar parabolic partial differential equation in one space dimension with control effected through mixed boundary conditions is developed. This model is then used to derive necessary and sufficient conditions for complete (modal) controllability of the system. Two examples are given which illustrate the results obtained.
