The Design of Scales for Test Instruments

DL James, K. F. H. MURRELL · Ergonomics · 1967

Experimental evidence on which to base scale designs for test instruments was sought. Four types of scale were investigated requiring differing interpolations of scale spacing, readings being made under accuracy instructions only. Results indicate that the scale design requiring interpolation to one-half of the scale spacing is road with greatest accuracy, apart from having various other advantages.
