Pedestrian-to-vehicle communication system for improving road safety using cellular phones
Chika Sugimoto, Yasuhisa Nakamura, Takuya Hashimoto · 2008
A prototype of pedestrian-to-vehicle communication system which uses 3G wireless network in combination with wireless LAN was developed by using cellular phones and car navigation systems. The system can exchange the information between pedestrians and vehicles, indicate the location of the ones that have an accident risk, and call for attention by employing the developed algorithm for estimating the collision risk between each pedestrian and vehicle. The effectiveness of the system was examined by a sensory test method.
