The role of representative submatrices in vertical linear complementarity theory

S. R. Mohan, Sarmistha Neogy · Linear and Multilinear Algebra · 1996

Representative submatrices have played an important role in the study of some classes of vertical linear complementarity problems. In this paper, we present a slightly different approach to the study of such problems by using equivalent linear complementarity problems. It is shown that the conditions and results obtained in terms of representative submatrices for these classes of problems can be rephrased in terms of certain nontrivial submatrices of their equivalent square matrices. This approach offers a new insight and yields a new characterization result for a vertical block P-matrix.
