Electronic Cinema — The REALLY Big Picture

Abstract Recent developments in large screen projection displays and image compression technology have brought the film‐less electronic cinema theatre closer to reality. This paper discusses technical requirements and alternative design approaches for an all‐digital electronic means for distribution and exhibition of motion pictures and other related programming. A cost‐effective complete system solution for processing, distributing and presenting cinema‐quality electronic programs originating as motion pictures is described.
