Electronic system for enhancement of reverberation at Kresge Auditorium, MIT, Cambridge, Massachusetts

J. Jacek Figwer · The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America · 1974

An electronic system for enhancement of reverberation was installed in the Kresge Auditorium, at MIT, in the Fall of 1970. The purpose of the system is to improve the acoustical environment for performance of music in an auditorium designed primarily for speech. The installation includes multiple microphones for pickup of sound close to the performers, a reverberation device employing a steel plate based on Kuhl's principle, and a system of concealed overhead loudspeakers distributing the delayed reverberated sound. An adjustment of reverberation time between 1.7 and 3.0 sec is possible at midfrequencies.
