Study on distance between two spots in a complex pattern by image processing

Yuyang Pan · 2011

The distance between two spots in a complex hexagon superlattice pattern, whose hexagon cell is composed of two closing spots in the center and six spots in the vertexes of the hexagon, is studied by image processing technology. At first, the binary image processing is used to determine the coordinates of all spots in a complex pattern, which consists of a lot of spots with different lightness and different size. Then the spatial correlation function is used to calculate the probability density function with the distance between two spots. It presents several peaks. The first one corresponds to the distance between two closing spots in the center and the second one to the side length of the hexagon cell. It is found that the side length of the hexagon cell is about 2.2 times of that between two closing spots.
