Visual notations, or languages, have a very critical role in the Requirements Engineering (RE) phase, as their use facilitates human communication and problem solving. Visual languages consist of syntax (form) and semantic (meaning). Syntax is an important but usually neglected part. Hence, in this paper, we follow a systematic survey related to the visual syntax design of RE notations to answer a research question about how to design user comprehensible RE visual notations. We examined and analyzed nine papers from the literature, and summarized the results.
