According to the recent experiment of Salart et al (2010 Phys. Rev. Lett. 104 180504) on the single-photon entanglement purification procedure with path length fluctuations, the improvement of the degree of entanglement is as high as 4.5%. On the other hand, it has been shown in Sangouard et al (2008 Phys. Rev. A 78 050301) that the optimal theoretical value is 5.7%. We find that the remaining 1.2% may be due to the environmental effects of the phase flip noise or the amplitude noise and that it may not be due to the bit flip noise.
