The State of Our Profession

Jeffrey L. Ott · Information Systems Security · 2001

In the last issue of Information Systems Security, I wrote about the need for our profession to organize itself and find a common voice to sound our issues and concerns. Among those organizations who represent us today are the International Information Systems Security Certifications Consortium (www.isc2.org) and System Administration, Networking, and Security Institute(http://www.sans.org/giactc.htm), both of which offer professional certifications. (Recently, the Information Systems Audit and Control Association® has entered the market as a founding partner of the Center for Internet Security (www.cisecurity.org). (See: “Join ISACA in Internet Security Centre,” Volume 10, Number 1). They, too, will be offering professional certification, along with benchmarking for IT professionals, auditors, and insurance underwriters. And for a mere $1,000, you can join CIS as a charter member. Your company can even become a charter company for a mere $25,000.
