User aware Mobility Management in Cognitive radio cellular network

Ranganathaiah Sumathi, M. Poornima, M. Suganthi · 2014

Spectrum aware Mobility Management framework consists of Spectrum mobility management, User mobility management and Intercell resource allocation. Spectrum Mobility Management is used to determine the target cell and spectrum band for CR users. It adaptively dependent on time-varying spectrum opportunities, leading to increase cell capacity. In the User Mobility Management scheme, a mobile user selects proper handoff mechanism to minimize the switching latency. Intercell resource allocation helps to improve the performance of QOS parameters. There exist three types of Handoff schemes namely Classical, Reactive and Proactive. All the spectrum handoff schemes have its own different shortcomings. So it is essential to find a better handoff scheme for different environments. The performance parameters have been identified such as Handoff latency, Packet delivery ratio, Throughput and Mean packet delay of Secondary user. The Cognitive radio networks are modeled and simulated using NS-2 under LINUX platform. An analysis has been done over the performance of the system using the three handoff schemes under different scenarios. The most appropriable handoff strategy for different environments and applications to meet the QOS requirements has also been suggested.
