Modal analysis of a handbell
Uwe J. Hansen, Thomas D. Rossing · The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America · 1986
Modal analysis with impact excitation offers an effective way to study the modes of vibration of percussion musical instruments [Sessions O and U, 109th ASA meeting (April 1985)]. The vibrational modes of a handbell can be conveniently classified into groups according to the number and location of their nodal circles [T. D. Rossing and R. Perrin, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. Suppl. 1 78, S75 (1985)]. The modes of a G4 Malmark handbell will be described, and computer animations of modes from various groups will be shown.
