Encryption is an essential component of computer security. It helps to provide message privacy, integrity, authentication and non-repudiation, and it is the only way to protect transmitted information. Encryption can prevent competitors from reading confidential documents, protect an individual's anonymity or prove an individual's identity, prevent vandals from modifying a Web page, avert fraud in electronic commerce, and assure the validity of financial transactions 1 . The use of strong encryption will become even more critical as more communications and commercial transactions are transmitted over computer networks. 1
