Analyst firm IDC has warned that virtualisation which is due to play a key part in upcoming data centres will create new security challenges. IDC recommends that business continuity, disaster recovery and security management are considered as companies adopt virtualisation. “Failure to configure and harden your virtual server might have very unpleasant results, especially when implemented without security considerations,” says Roy Harari from ComSec Consulting. “In a number of cases we witnessed a hacker bringing down an entire virtual infrastructure because of a memory leak flaw on one of the servers.” Roy Harari looks at the steps to achieve secure virtualisation.
