CONVERSATIONAL ANALYSIS AND HUMAN-COMPUTER DIALOG DESIGN

The Voice Operated Database Inquiry System (VODIS) project is being carried out under the auspices of the UK Alvey Initiative, Man-Machine Interface Sector. It is planned to run for 3 years, at a cost of around $3m, and is an exemplar, intended to demonstrate the feasibility of speech-based man-machine interaction for untrained users. The system is a prototype voice-operated database inquiry system, to be used over the telephone by the general public.
