A method of estimating ranging rate for multicast and broadcast services

This paper provides an analytic method to estimate the ranging rate involved in multicast and broadcast service (MBS) of mobile packet systems. The ranging rate is derived as a closed-form function of the Laplace transform of the MBS session time distribution. The method can be easily extended and applied to mobile systems with hierarchical cell structure.
