The drawing and registration of archaeological footwear

The seams and stitch-holes visible on un-attached components of leather goods impart considerable information concerning the construction and form of the object as well as the methods used in manufacture. A system of registration of the information by means of drawmgs and tables of characteristics is presented, in the hope of achieving some measure of uniformity in the publication of leather objects. The emphasis lies on footwear since this is numerically the most frequent category of find and it also presents the most variety in technical detail.
