Flexibility of polymers in binary and ternary systems

F. Zamora, Magdalena González, Luis Manuel León · Journal of Macromolecular Science Part B · 1989

We have attempted to apply the relationship found between the flexibility parameter in θ-conditions, λθ, and h*/h, h being the monomeric unit projection length, according to the wormlike theory, and h* the slope value when plotting ( /L)½ versus λ, to ternary systems composed of one polymer and two solvents or a solvent and a nonsolvent. This relationship is very well verified by all ternary systems studied. We have noted that the variation of λθ with solvent mixture can reflect preferential adsorption and conformational transition phenomena. The same relationship has been applied to two series of polyoxides and polyoiefins in pure solvents.
