Demands on secure communications have increased dramatically in the last few years. Cryptography is widely used for secure data transmission. In fact, cryptographic algorithms are expected to be embedded in most applications that involve transfer of private information. The ElGamal public-key cryptography (PKC) algorithm is considered to be one of the most efficient and popular algorithms that provides a high level of security. In this article, we propose a hardware design and an implementation using FPGAs for ElGamal PKC algorithm. Experimental results of the implementation are presented, analyzed, and discussed.
