Performance of interframe predictive coders for television signals under various conditions of motion

Don E. Pearson, Tim J. Dennis · Electronics Letters · 1979

Subjective tests are reported, at 3 bits/pel, of the performance of several predictive coders for monochrome 625-line television signals under five different conditions of motion, including panning and scene changes. The results indicate that interframe prediction, used on a selective basis, can produce a worthwhile improvement in picture quality over that possible by intraframe prediction alone.
