Large, complex software systems are becoming more commonplace in a wide range of applications spanning both the new ‘emergent technologies’ and the older, more traditional, engineering disciplines. Crucial to the effective execution of these projects is the efficient collection and availability of data. In order to support and control this production process there is currently a considerable amount of effort being put into the design of sophisticated software development environments
