Are orthogonal transformations worthwhile for least squares problems?
Richard L. Branham · ACM SIGNUM Newsletter · 1987
Orthogonal transformations are important in many areas of numerical analysis. Even though they may be used for the solution of large least squares systems, their suitability for this task has been exaggerated. For most problems normal equations are adequate and computationally less time consuming.
