Relation of resampled switched analogue filters to digital filters†

A.G.J. Holt, C. PULÉ · International Journal of Electronics · 1970

The relation between analogue or continuous filters to their digital counterpart is usually made either through the mathematical Z transform or bi-linear transform of the continuous transfer function. However, if the analogue filter is realized in a network form and then used in conjunction with switching devices, it has been found that by resampling the output of such a network at different position, the resultant, output approximates to that obtained from a Z-transformed or bi-linearly transformed digital filter which originates from the same transfer function. Either output can be selected by changing the ‘position’ of the final sampler with respect to other switches within the network.
