Micros vs. mainframes (Panel)
Val Silbey · Winter Simulation Conference · 1984
With the advent of powerful, inexpensive microcomputers, the possibility of performing simulations on equipment other than mainframes has become a reality. Is this reality at this point more than just a matter of demonstration of small models or an educational tool? Have the mainframe and supermini monoliths lost their place in the simulation community to micros just as so many business applications have been downloaded to small systems?Or have we seen equipment and software so far which is not yet capable of taking on the simulation tasks have traditionally been done by large-scale systems?
