Reversing the Jaynes$ndash$Cummings dynamics to measure decoherence

Giovanna Morigi, E. Solano, Berthold‐Georg Englert, HERBERT WALTHER · Journal of Optics B Quantum and Semiclassical Optics · 2002

We show that the Jaynes–Cummings dynamics can be undone by a suitable manipulation of the two-level system—more specifically, by a quasi-instantaneous phase change. We discuss this effect in relation to decoherence measurements of a photon mode in cavity quantum electrodynamics and those of the quantized harmonic motion of trapped ions. We comment on the relation to spin echoes.
