Evidential Comparisons Using Belief Functions, Rough Sets and Nonmonotonic Preferences

ABSTRACTThis study establishes a relationship between the evidential comparisons in the rough set theory, the nonmonotonic preference structures, and the theory of belief functions. The nonmonotonic preference structures use the notion of existing as well as future evidence. Hence, these structures can be used to describe the accumulation of evidence in belief functions, and the knowledge refinement in the rough set theory. The consistency between combination operations in these three theories may be useful for the development of a unified decision theoretic framework.
