Securing the online world with biometrics

According to UK card payments industry association APACS, card fraud in the UK amounted to £428 million (US$850 million) in 2006, slightly down on the previous year's £439 million. Although the introduction of chip-and-PIN has contributed to this decrease, fraud is still a huge problem and more secure methods of identifying individuals are needed when they make payments. Biometric technology is increasingly being viewed as a potential answer to the problem.
