Understanding Requirement Volatility in Software Projects

Rahul Thakurta, Frederik Ahlemann · Engineering Management Journal · 2011

:The research presented here uses a combination of interviews and surveys in two phases to investigate the prevalent management approaches adopted in projects that face requirement volatility. The result identifies 13 different approaches to managing projects under requirement volatility. Their usage pattern is, however, ad-hoc with some variations depending upon the adopted process models. The participants' perceptions and preferences in this regard indicate some incongruence, with a noticeable trend toward customization. The findings are expected to benefit practitioners, and promote further discussions in the area.
